In a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to 23 new ministers. With this expansion, the total strength of C. Joseph Vijay’s government, including the Chief Minister, has now increased to 33.
The Congress is being widely discussed in this cabinet expansion because it has returned to the cabinet after 59 years.
The Tamil Nadu government includes the Indian National Congress as the second-largest party after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in terms of MLAs, which is why the Congress is being widely discussed. The party is also returning to the cabinet after 59 years, and two senior Congress leaders have been given ministerial posts.
S. Rajesh Kumar has been assigned to the Tourism Department.
P. Viswanathan has been assigned to the Higher Education Department.
Both the Tourism and Higher Education departments are important portfolios, which indicates that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is keen on working in coordination with the Indian National Congress and taking it along within the government.
The Finance Department has been assigned to N. Marie Wilson, a senior leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. He will also be responsible for the Pensions and Planning & Development departments.
The Revenue Department, which is a very important state department, along with Disaster Management, has now been assigned to K. A. Sengottaiyan.
The Social Welfare Department, which was earlier under the Chief Minister, has now been assigned to K. Jagdishwari. With this, the department is now headed by a woman minister.
In this cabinet, a total of four women ministers have been included.
