At present, extreme heat is being witnessed across India, and if we talk about the worst impact of the heatwave, it is being seen mainly in North India.
In North India, the heatwave is having the strongest impact in states such as Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana including the Delhi-NCR region, Punjab, and Bihar
Amid this intense heatwave, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens to take precautions and stay safe.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on the X platform….
“Temperatures are continuously rising in different parts of the country, and along with this, the many difficulties caused by the heat in daily life are also increasing. I urge all my fellow citizens to take as many precautions as possible. Please keep yourselves hydrated and carry water with you when stepping out of your homes. In such weather, your sensitivity also becomes a great source of support. If possible, do offer a glass of water to anyone who is thirsty. I also appreciate those people who keep water in pitchers outside their homes and shops so that anyone can drink from them.”
According to data from the India Meteorological Department, people in several states of North India are being severely affected by extreme heat and heatwave conditions.
The highest temperatures in the entire country are being recorded in Rajasthan, where the mercury is crossing 48°C in districts such as Jaisalmer and Churu.
Meanwhile, if we talk about Uttar Pradesh, several cities are facing extremely severe heat. Temperatures of up to 48°C have been recorded in cities such as Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Banda.
In Haryana, including the Delhi-NCR region, temperatures much higher than normal are being recorded in several cities such as Gurugram, Faridabad, and Rohtak, where the temperature has remained between 44°C and 45°C.
In Punjab, temperatures in most districts are remaining above 44°C.
The western and southern parts of Bihar are witnessing a severe impact of the heatwave, especially in Sasaram, where temperatures have reached between 47°C and 48°C.
Meanwhile, the heatwave is also showing its severe impact in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra, where temperatures in many areas have crossed 40°C.
Overall, if we look at the situation, extreme heat is being experienced across India at this time, and all of us need to take extra precautions to stay safe during the heatwave.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to take precautions against the heatwave, Mallikarjun Kharge made a comment on the issue some time later.
Mallikarjun Kharge said, “People may endure the heat, but common citizens are sweating because of the fire of BJP-sponsored inflation.”
“Why don’t you speak about the alleged loot by your own government as well, Modi ji?”
If we talk about the hottest cities in the world at present, India dominates the list, with four of the top hottest cities globally being from India.
At the top of this list is Banda in Uttar Pradesh, where the temperature was recorded at 48.2°C in May 2026, making it the highest temperature recorded in the world during this period.
After that, Barmer in Rajasthan holds the second position globally, where temperatures have reached as high as 47.3°C.
Sasaram in Bihar is the third hottest city in the world, where the temperature has reached close to 48°C.
Balangir in Odisha holds the fourth position among the world’s hottest places, where temperatures between 45°C and 47°C have been recorded.
Kuwait City in Kuwait is also among the world’s top five hottest cities, where temperatures often remain between 44°C and 47°C.
Key Points
- Earlier, extreme heat was mostly associated with the Gulf region, but that is no longer entirely true. Today, India has emerged as one of the global heat centers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens to take precautions during the heatwave, but many people also believe that the government should explain what steps are being taken to reduce the impact of extreme heat and tackle the growing climate challenge in the country.
