In Bihar politics, the name of Nitish Kumar will always be remembered, as he served as chief minister for a long time. Now, as he moves into national politics, he took the oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on April 10. Soon after taking the oath, he left for Patna.

Before taking the oath, Nitish Kumar met J. P. Nadda, the leader of the Rajya Sabha. He was then administered the oath of membership in the Upper House by C. P. Radhakrishnan, the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, in the presence of a limited number of leaders.

The leaders present at the time included:

  • J. P. Nadda – Union Minister and Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha
  • Nirmala Sitharaman – Union Finance Minister
  • Rajiv Ranjan Singh – Union Minister of Panchayati Raj
  • Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha – Deputy Chief Ministers of Bihar
  • Sanjay Jha – Working President of JDU
  • Ram Nath Thakur – Union Minister of State
  • Arjun Ram Meghwal – Union Minister of State
  • Jairam Ramesh – Congress Chief Whip
  • Rajiv Pratap Rudy – BJP MP

After that, PM Narendra Modi congratulated Nitish Kumar and said:

“Nitish Kumar ji is one of the most experienced leaders in the country. His commitment to good governance has been widely appreciated. He has made an indelible contribution to the development of Bihar. It is a pleasure to see him in Parliament once again. He has also served the nation for many years as a member of Parliament and as a union minister. I am confident that his vast political experience will further enhance the dignity of Parliament. Heartfelt congratulations to him on taking the oath as a Rajya Sabha MP, and best wishes for his future tenure.”

After Nitish Kumar moved to the Rajya Sabha, a new turn has emerged in Bihar politics regarding who will become the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing within the BJP about who should be appointed as the next CM.

A core group meeting of the BJP has been called in Delhi. Senior BJP leaders, along with some leaders from Bihar, are participating in the meeting. Bihar’s current Deputy Chief Ministers, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, are also in Delhi. According to reports, the NDA may announce the face of the chief minister for Bihar by April 14.

Senior Bihar leader and minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that the NDA government will continue to work on the Nitish Kumar model, regardless of who becomes the chief minister. He added that Bihar has seen 20 years of good governance, and they will continue to follow the same model.

It will be interesting to see who becomes the chief minister from the NDA and which model will be followed—whether the Nitish model continues or the BJP introduces a new one. Everything will become clear in the coming days about what new developments are going to take place in Bihar. It is also a crucial test for the BJP.
