Goddess Skandamata (the fifth form of Navdurga) is the goddess of knowledge, motherly love, and compassion. Seated on a lotus, she holds Lord Skanda (Kartikeya) in her lap, symbolizing motherhood and protection. Worshipping her blesses devotees with happiness, peace, prosperity, and spiritual awareness.
Goddess Skandamata is associated with Kartikeya (Skanda). According to mythological beliefs, when the demon Tarakasura’s atrocities increased and the gods became troubled by him, they prayed to Goddess Parvati for help. In response, Goddess Parvati gave birth to Skanda (Kartikeya). When he grew up, he defeated and killed the demon Tarakasura.

- In Hands: Two hands hold lotus flowers; One hand holds the child Skanda, One hand is in Abhaya Mudra (gesture of fearlessness and blessing)
- Vehicle: Lion – symbolizes power, courage, and fearlessness
- Complexion (Color): Extremely radiant and calm
Since the Goddess is seated on a lotus, she is also known as Padmasana Devi.
On the fifth day of Navratri, Goddess Skandamata is worshipped with special devotion:
- Take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes (yellow or white are considered auspicious)
- Clean the worship place and install the idol or picture of the Goddess
- Purify the area with Ganga water
- Offer yellow flowers, lotus flowers, fruits, and sweets
- Light a lamp and incense sticks and perform aarti
- Chant the Skandamata mantra
