The plane had pulled away from the stand and was ready to take off when the plan was altered.
On Friday afternoon, an IndiGo plane heading to Chennai was hit by a threat message, and the plane pulled back into the bay at Delhi airport without taking off. It was the IndiGo 6E 6091 flight.
The initial reports suggest that an unusual track has been made. As per PTI sources, there was a threatening message regarding the flight that was called to the air traffic controller. The message "Do not fly 6E 6091" apparently appeared in one of the aircraft toilets.
The information comes from sources who have not revealed their names. Neither IndiGo nor Delhi airport authorities had made a statement at the time when the reports were compiled.
The flight was supposed to be operated using the Airbus A321neo aircraft, and its scheduled departure time was around 3.15 pm. Following the message, there was a decision made to shift the aircraft to the isolation bay for checks against sabotage.
An isolation bay refers to a location isolated from the main building of the airport where aircraft can be inspected. This shift does not imply that the bomb has been detected.
The number of people in the aircraft could not be known immediately. The manner in which the passengers have been treated and whether the flight is scheduled to operate later have not been indicated by the airline through the available sources.
According to one of the flight status listings in Trip.com, the flight has been cancelled. This is only an aggregating information source.
For the passengers, it proves to be quite an ordeal even if the danger does not materialize. Just recently, a similar incident happened in one of the flights operated under the same airline network.
Last Monday, October 19, an IndiGo flight flying from Chennai to Goa was delayed for almost five hours due to a bomb threat, resulting in a security check at the Chennai airport. The passengers were deboarded, and the flight was moved to an isolated bay for inspection.
It was categorized as specific at around 6:05 pm by the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee. The alert was canceled at 9:20 pm, and the plane was released to the IndiGo airline. It was not known where the threat originated from.
Indonesian airports have standard procedures that must be followed regardless of whether there is a hoax, when a threat is perceived. If the aircraft in question has been cleared from the parking position, then it is quite difficult because everyone is present together at the same location.
These latest two cases belong to a much larger trend. Back in December 2025, an IndiGo flight from Kuwait to Hyderabad had an emergency landing at Mumbai airport due to an email warning of a “human bomb” on board. Before that, an email reporting a bomb on board had created a high alert situation at IndiGo's grievance portal on 12th November 2025 at Indira Gandhi Airport.
Back in September 2025, an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Delhi carrying around 200 passengers received a threatening mail, which was later deemed to be non-specific by the security agencies.
Some fundamental issues still need to be sorted out. It is still unclear whether the 6E 6091 checks have been conducted, what was discovered in them, and whether the flight will be flown by the airline after that. What is more, it is unclear whether the police have started investigating the threat note.
The passengers who were waiting for their flight to Chennai are the ones who will pay the price of that right away.
