Asha Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday due to chest pain. Hospital doctor Prateet Samdani said that several of her organs stopped functioning, a condition known as multiple organ failure, which led to her death.

Some time later, her son spoke to the media and said that her last rites would be performed on Monday.

When the news of Asha Bhosle’s death spread across the country, reactions began pouring in from all sides. People from Bollywood and politics started expressing their condolences. During this time, Narendra Modi also shared his reaction on X.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle Ji, one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known. Her extraordinary musical journey, spanning decades, enriched our cultural heritage and touched countless hearts across the world. Be it her soulful melodies or vibrant compositions, her voice carried timeless brilliance. I’ll always cherish the interactions I’ve had with her. My condolences to her family, admirers and music lovers. She will continue to inspire generations and her songs will forever echo in people’s lives.”

Today, her last rites were performed at 4 PM at the Shivaji Park Crematorium in Mumbai. Many well-known personalities came to pay their final respects to Asha Bhosle, including Sachin Tendulkar, Jackie Shroff, Helen, Vidya Balan, Urmila Matondkar, Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray and Rashmi Thackeray, Sunetra Pawar, and Eknath Shinde.

Life of Asha Bhosle:

She was born on 8 September 1933 in Goar, Sangli, in the Bombay Presidency (present-day Maharashtra, India).

Her father was Deenanath Mangeshkar and her mother was Shevanti Mangeshkar. She had four siblings: Lata Mangeshkar, Meena Khadikar, Usha Mangeshkar, and Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

She was married twice. Her first husband was Ganpatrao Bhosle (1949–1960). After his death in 1960, she later married R. D. Burman in 1980. He passed away in 1994.

She had three children: Hemant Bhosle, Varsha Bhosle, and Anand Bhosle.

Asha Bhosle began her career in 1943 with a Marathi song titled Chala Chala Nav Bala from the film Majha Bal.

Later, she entered Hindi cinema (Bollywood) in 1948 with the song Sawan Aaya from the film Chunariya.

Asha Bhosle received many awards during her lifetime. She won 7 Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, 2 National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer, the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000.
