Fans of Black Clover have waited a long time for this one. Season 1 wrapped up all the way back in 2021 after 170 episodes, and since then, there's been pretty much nothing except the 2023 movie, Sword of the Wizard King. That wait is finally over. Season 2 drops October 3, and it's picking up right where things left off.
Six years is a long gap for any anime to come back from. Part of the reason seems to be quality. Studio Pierrot reportedly reworked its production pipeline for this season, aiming for the kind of cinematic animation that shows like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen have set as the new bar. Fans who got an early look at the show at a convention this past July said the new director delivered on something Tabata himself had reportedly asked for, fight scenes that feel "extra cool."
Whether that pays off remains to be seen once episodes actually start airing, but the pressure is clearly there. Anime viewers in 2026 expect a lot more visually than they did when Black Clover first aired back in 2017.

Season 2 is adapting the Spade Kingdom Arc, which is a pretty big deal for people who've read the manga. This is the part where the Clover Kingdom's top Magic Knights put together a massive, coordinated raid on the Spade Kingdom to save their captain, Yami Sukehiro, who's been held there. It also sets up the fight against the Dark Triad, generally considered one of the most intense stretches of the entire series.

Here's the bigger picture, though. This season isn't just one arc. It's actually split into two parts, called "cours" in anime terms, and together they're meant to cover all the remaining story, roughly 122 chapters worth of manga material. That means Season 2 is being built to actually finish the series, not just continue it. Part one airs this fall. Part two is expected sometime in 2027.

The full season runs 26 episodes total, split across those two parts. New episodes air weekly in Japan, and Crunchyroll is handling the international release, usually dropping new episodes close to the same time as the Japanese broadcast. Subtitles are available in multiple languages, and a dub is also planned, though the exact dub schedule hadn't been locked in as of the announcement.
If you want to catch up before diving in, all of Season 1 is already streaming on Crunchyroll, and the Sword of the Wizard King movie is available separately on Netflix.
Black Clover's new ending theme is called "Yellow Brick Road," performed by the band ONE OR EIGHT. It was revealed back in September alongside the confirmed October 3 release date. An opening theme from WANIMA had already been teased earlier in the year too, so the show's music lineup has been building anticipation for months.
Crunchyroll also gave fans a head start before the actual TV premiere. On September 21, the streaming service partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment to screen the Season 2 premiere early in select US theaters, part of their ongoing Anime Nights program. It's a fairly common move these days for big returning anime, letting hardcore fans see the first episode on the big screen before everyone else gets it at home.

Black Clover has always had a pretty devoted fanbase, built around Asta's underdog story, a kid with zero magic power trying to become the strongest Magic Knight in a world where everyone else is born with some kind of ability. The manga wrapped up its full story already, so Season 2 essentially has a finish line to work toward, which is a different position than a lot of long-running shonen anime find themselves in.
With the story fully written and the production studio apparently investing more into the animation quality, there's a real chance this season could end up being remembered as a strong closing stretch for the series, rather than just more filler-heavy continuation. That said, expectations are high, and six years is enough time for a fanbase to build up some pretty specific hopes for how this should look and feel.
October 3 is when everyone finds out if the wait was worth it. From there, it's a weekly release through however many episodes make up part one, before the story picks back up again sometime in 2027 for the back half of the season. For now, Black Clover fans finally have a date circled on the calendar after years of just waiting for news.
