For the Carolina Panthers, Sunday Night Football made its way back into Bank of America Stadium in 2026 for a thrilling 32-26 victory over the Detroit Lions on October 4.
Bryce Young torched the Lions defense all night long as this win would drop Detroit to 2-2 and give the Carolina Panthers a signature win after starting their season off on the wrong foot.
It was all about Bryce Young and rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan as per Yahoo Sports, and both players took control of this game from the very beginning.
It was a difficult secondary for the Lions as McMillan got his hands on several key receptions in this game, and the most important one came when he converted a third-and-14 pass with less than two minutes left in the game.
The Carolina Panthers grabbed the lead in the first quarter with the help of Young, who shredded the Lions' defense using short passes and good running from Chuba Hubbard.
Hubbard scored the team's first touchdown with an off-tackle run of 15 yards, leading to a 7-3 score after the first quarter.
The Lions replied after an 11-yard pass to tight end Sam LaPorta, assisted by the roughing-the-passer penalty, that put them into Carolina territory, making the lead 7-6.
Both teams took turns scoring throughout the first half, which resulted in a score of 16-16 at halftime.

Coming out of halftime, the Panthers showed a great deal of energy and outscored the Lions 10-0 in the third quarter to solidify control over the game.
Carolina expanded their lead to 22-19 after scoring a short field goal from the Lions but then extended the gap to 29-19 with a second touchdown by Hubbard.
Entering the fourth quarter, Carolina was winning 29-19, while the Lions had to overcome a difficult situation since they were over midfield to start the fourth quarter.
Hubbard kept showing great form for the Panthers in offense, managing to gain 12 yards on yet another play to further increase the lead for his team.
However, the Lions went down fighting. A touchdown reception from Jared Goff to Sam LaPorta for 8 yards reduced the Panthers' lead to 6 points at 3:38 of the clock left, allowing the Lions still to hope for a miracle.
Early in that very period, Detroit had already gone for it on fourth-and-20, showing the desperate offensive strategy that the Lions had to pursue due to the increasing score difference.
However, the Lions still got their opportunity thanks to their defense, as Princely Umanmielen sacked the quarterback of the opponent on the second down to force the Panthers to face the fourth-and-13 situation.
Unfortunately, Jared Goff threw a pass to Isaac TeSlaa on the next down, which fell short of the mark, with Will Lee of Carolina stopping the ballcarrier. The Panthers kneeled out the rest of the time to win the game 32-26.

The result held extra weight for Carolina given how tough the beginning of their season has been.
For the Panthers, the win was an end to a period during which they had struggled to find their offensive identity, and Young’s performance against the Lions defense, which has flashed some good things throughout the season, provided an encouraging sign of Young’s ongoing growth as a young quarterback.
For Detroit, the loss brought more trouble on the defensive side of the ball, according to Pride of Detroit, which pointed out “defensive disaster” as the key factor in the game.
