The ₹30,200 crore IPO, which is backed by Reliance Industries, will see the allocation of shares to demat accounts of allotted investors on October 27. On October 28, it will get listed on the NSE and BSE. This article is just for informational purposes and not for any investment advice.
- The IPO schedule according to the company was as follows:
- Anchor bids—Monday, October 19.
- Subscription – Wednesday, October 21 to Friday, October 23.
- Allotment—Monday, October 26.
- Refunds/Demat credit—Tuesday, October 27.
- Listing – Wednesday, October 28, on NSE/BSE.
Price band: Jio Platforms announced a price band of ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 for one share, and the lot size was 12 shares.
Therefore, a retail individual would require an investment of at least ₹13,428 for subscription at the higher end of the price band. This issue is completely a fresh issue of 27 crore shares, and there is a discount of ₹54 per share for the employees.
The issue includes a reserved quota for shareholders of Reliance Industries who held shares until October 13. Issue-size details are somewhat different, ranging from ₹30,188 crore to ₹30,213 crore.
Subscriptions were high, but not uniform throughout the various categories. At the end of the bidding process on Friday, subscriptions stood at:
- Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs): 70.55 times.
- Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs): 14 times.
- Retail Investors: 2.72 times.
- Employee Quota: 2.93 times.
- Shareholders' Quota: 7.60 times.
- According to the allocation, no more than 50% of the net issue would be allotted to QIBs, while 15% and 35% would go to NIIs and retail investors, respectively.
- What the Retail Investors should expect
Since the retail category was subscribed 2.72 times, demand outstripped supply, and as such, not everyone who applied will receive their shares.
In an event where a particular category of retail is oversubscribed, the allocation is usually made via lottery. Thus, one cannot be assured of getting his or her shares simply because he or she applied for them.
KFin Technologies is the registrar of the issue. Once the basis of allotment is fixed, as expected tomorrow, the name of Jio Platforms will come up in the drop-down menu.
This can be verified from:
- KFin Technologies: Go to the IPO status link, choose Jio Platforms, and look for your name by providing your PAN, application number, or demat account details.
- BSE: Select "Jio Platforms Limited" as the issue name on the IPO allotment link and then provide your application number or PAN.
- NSE: Go to the NSE IPO status link, select the issue there, and give your details.
Once your allotment comes through, your shares will credit your demat account on or after October 27. If not, the amount blocked against your application will be returned through UPI mandate or debited to your bank account.
The grey market premium, which is the trading that takes place outside the regulated exchanges, is around ₹245 to ₹247 per share on Monday, i.e., 22% above the upper price band.
This means that the indicative listing price will be around ₹1,364 to ₹1,366. However, the grey market is unregulated, and the premium cannot be used as an indicator.
Jio Platforms is part of the digital and telecom group of companies belonging to Reliance Industries and forms one of the largest consumer technology firms in India. The share offering has been one of the largest public offerings seen in India, attracting much attention from investors locally and globally.
The higher response from QIBs is an indication of the confidence that institutions had, while the lower response from the retail sector is a result of caution from the smaller investor community.
A high subscription does not ensure profitability for investors after the listing, and experts have asked investors to separate the two. For those receiving the allotment of shares, it is important to think about one’s own time horizon and risk tolerance, along with the company valuation against the earnings.
Others who have not been allotted the shares can think of purchasing the shares through the exchange platform once they are listed.
The subsequent processes involve the finalization of the base of allotments today, credit of allotments, and refunds on Tuesday and listing on Wednesday morning. The company is anticipated to release the allotment information on the stock exchanges.
Post-listing, attention will be paid to the trading performance of the share with respect to the issue price and grey market premium.
