A major attack took place in Kuwait on Wednesday involving drones and missiles, forcing authorities to divert flights from Kuwait International Airport to other airports as a precautionary measure.
Reports indicate that the attack targeted Terminal 1 (T1) of Kuwait International Airport, prompting authorities to divert several flights to other airports as a precautionary measure.
According to reports so far, one Indian national has been killed in the attack, and at least 63 people have been injured.
According to the Kuwaiti military, Iran used 17 Shahed-136 suicide drones and 13 ballistic missiles in the attack.
Kuwait's Ministry of Defense said,
“In a media briefing, Ministry of Defense spokesperson Colonel Al-Atwan stated that Kuwait's armed forces intercepted 13 hostile ballistic missiles and 17 drones early Wednesday as Iranian attacks targeted the country, including civilian and vital facilities."”
During the attack, several missiles were intercepted and destroyed in the air by Kuwaiti and U.S. air defense systems.
The attack was reportedly carried out by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on June 3, 2026.
Iran said that if the United States continues to attack its oil tankers and commercial vessels, it will continue to carry out similar retaliatory actions in response.
Along with this, Iran reportedly targeted several other locations in Kuwait, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base, which hosts U.S. troops. Iran also launched missile attacks toward the headquarters of the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
Following the attack, the U.S. also carried out retaliatory action against Iranian military installations.
An Indian citizen was killed in the attack, which was condemned by India's Ministry of External Affairs.
According to information provided by India's Ministry of External Affairs, one Indian citizen was killed in the attack, while several other Indian nationals were injured.
Regarding this, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait stated that…
“Embassy of India in Kuwait expresses its deepest condolences at the tragic demise of an Indian national due to an attack on the airport in Kuwait today. The Embassy is in touch with the bereaved family and is closely coordinating with the Kuwaiti authorities to render all possible support and assistance to the bereaved family as well as those injured in the incident.”
Meanwhile, India's Ministry of External Affairs has once again called for an end to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and urged all sides to refrain from attacks. The ministry emphasized that civilians and civilian infrastructure should not be targeted.
In response, Iran clearly stated that the attack was carried out as retaliation for U.S. actions against Iranian oil tankers and vessels.
Iran said that the attack on Kuwait was carried out because the U.S. had allegedly launched strikes on Iran from Kuwait's Ali Al Salem Air Base and from the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. Iran claimed its attack was a retaliatory response to those actions.
Iran also said that it had no intention of harming civilians and that its objective was to target military facilities, not ordinary people.
Iran said the strike on Qeshm Island violated its sovereignty and territorial integrity and condemned the attack in the strongest terms.
Iran warned that it could fully shut down the Strait of Hormuz if the situation worsens further.
Just a few days ago, U.S. President Donald Trump had said that talks with Iran were progressing well and that a deal could be reached very soon.
