A U.S. official said on Thursday that 19 U.S. ships are currently deployed in the Middle East, including two aircraft carriers, while seven ships are stationed in the Indian Ocean.
The United States is using a large portion of its navy to enforce a blockade against Iran. So far, the U.S. has diverted the routes of 33 ships, and American forces have boarded and searched at least three vessels. Two of these ships were in the Indian Ocean, about 2,000 miles from the Persian Gulf. The United States Department of Defense said in a statement that the inspections were carried out on Wednesday on ships carrying oil from the Indian Ocean.
According to United States Central Command, there were 15 ships in the Middle East until last Monday, but now the number of ships in the region has increased to 19.
