In Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to form the government for the third time, as the BJP has secured a major victory in the state. Himanta Biswa Sarma has played a very significant role in this win.
The results of all 126 seats in Assam are now out, in which the BJP has registered a massive victory. On the other hand, the Congress once again faced a major defeat in this election.
Meanwhile, parties like the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Raijor Dal (RJRD), and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) managed to win a few seats.
However, the BJP emerged as the single largest party in this election with a dominant performance.
These are the numbers showing the seats won by each party.
- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): 82 seats
- Indian National Congress (INC): 19 seats
- Bodoland Peoples Front (BOPF): 10 seats
- Asom Gana Parishad (AGP): 10 seats
- All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF): 2 seats
- Raijor Dal (RJRD): 2 seats
- All India Trinamool Congress (AITC): 1 seat
In the Assam elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party.
An interesting point in this election is that out of the total 19 seats won by the Congress, 18 winning candidates are Muslim, while only one winning candidate is Hindu.
The only Hindu candidate who won from Congress in this election is Dr. Joy Prakash Das.
Himanta Biswa Sarma contested the election from the Jalukbari Assembly Constituency.
He secured a strong victory in this seat with 127,151 votes. His winning margin was 89,434 votes, reflecting a very comfortable lead.
The second position was held by Bidisha Neog, who received 37,717 votes.
Overall, it was a decisive win for Himanta Biswa Sarma in the Jalukbari constituency.
Gaurav Gogoi contested from the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency in this election and faced defeat.
He secured 46,257 votes and lost by a margin of 23,182 votes.
The winning candidate from this seat was Hitendra Nath Goswami (BJP), who received 69,439 votes and secured a clear victory.
Overall, Jorhat saw a strong win for the BJP candidate, while Gaurav Gogoi finished in second place.
Gaurav Gogoi is a senior leader of the Congress party. His father, Tarun Gogoi, was also a senior Congress leader and served as the chief minister of Assam.
Tarun Gogoi was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Assam, holding the position from 2001 to 2016.
