Why is Mamata Banerjee so troubled that she is unable to sleep at night?

F rom yesterday to today, Mamata Banerjee has been seen going to the strong room multiple times, and at one point, she stayed there for about four hours. What could have happened that required her to visit the strong room so frequently? Her actions seem to suggest that she might be worried about losing the election.

Mamata Banerjee and several leaders of Trinamool Congress have said that the Election Commission of India is working in a one-sided manner.

On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party has said that Mamata Banerjee can already sense that she may lose the election, so she is setting her narrative in advance for after May 4—that she did not lose the election, but was defeated by the system.

Attacks are being reported from both sides—Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has decided that re-voting will be conducted at some polling booths.

According to reports, re-voting will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 11 booths in the Magrahat Paschim Assembly constituency and 4 booths in the Diamond Harbour Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas.

A total of 15 booths will undergo re-voting, and the voting will take place from 7 AM to 6 PM.

Complaints of irregularities were received at these booths, after which the Election Commission of India decided to conduct re-voting. This information was shared in a press release by the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal.

The Election Commission of India has decided that only central government employees will be appointed as supervisors. Regarding this decision, Mamata Banerjee has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India.

The results are scheduled to be announced on May 4, and the hearing in this case will take place on May 2. The matter will be heard by Justice P. S. Narasimha and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.

Earlier, Trinamool Congress had filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court, which was dismissed on Thursday. Following this, the party has challenged the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court of India.

In this election, the Election Commission of India decided that the entire polling process in West Bengal would be conducted under the supervision of central forces. This decision was taken because the Commission had received complaints during previous elections alleging that Trinamool Congress workers intimidated voters and prevented them from casting their votes freely.

If there is one party facing the greatest challenge due to this situation, it is the Trinamool Congress. Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, remarked that—short of deploying fighter jets or naval vessels—the entire administrative machinery, in conjunction with the central forces, has been fully mobilized. He further stated that these central forces would not remain in the state after May 4, and at that juncture, "we shall see who protects you"—a statement being widely interpreted as a warning directed at the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Abhishek Banerjee and his associates routinely intimidate voters during elections with the objective of securing votes for the Trinamool Congress. This constitutes the party's "true face," and the presence of central forces is effectively curbing such activities—a situation that is causing them considerable difficulty.

In response to this, Amit Shah has decided that the central forces will remain deployed in West Bengal for two months even after the conclusion of the elections.

Currently, more than 200,000 personnel of the central forces are deployed across West Bengal.
