The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has declared IBPS PO Prelims Result 2026 on its official website ibps.in on September 23 after around one month wait of those candidates who appeared in the exam.
The Preliminary Examination has been conducted on August 22 and 23 in more than 200 centers all over India, which was the first phase of the multiple level selection process of Common Recruitment Process for Probationary Officers and Management Trainees, cycle XVI.
Candidate eligibility status can be verified by accessing the official IBPS portal through their Registration Number or Roll Number with Password or Date of Birth.
The results, which are posted in form of an online merit list, reveal the name, roll number, registration number, category, and eligibility status of each candidate, enabling them to instantly verify their eligibility to proceed to the subsequent round.
This year’s IBPS PO recruitment process is intended to fill up 7,565 posts of Probationary Officer & Management Trainee in 11 public sector banks. With such a huge number of vacancies to be filled, the current IBPS PO recruitment process can be termed as one of the biggest in the banking industry in recent years.
Considering the large number of vacancies and consequent number of applications, the authorities have warned the candidates that they should expect traffic on the result portal during the result release time, leading to slow response time, failed logins, or "record not found" messages for some candidates.
The IBPS PO Selection Process consists of a three-tiered approach: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and a Personal Interview. However, unlike the Prelims phase, there is no need for any aptitude test before taking up the Mains examination. That means candidates who are eligible for IBPS PO Mains can start preparing themselves for the second round of the IBPS PO Mains examination.
Candidates who have successfully passed the preliminary test with good cut-off marks will take up the IBPS PO Mains Exam on October 4, 2026.
IBPS has explicitly mentioned that the score secured by candidates in the prelims exam will not be taken into account for the selection process of IBPS PO.
There being only about a two-week gap between the declaration of the prelims result and the date of the mains exam, candidates who qualify for the mains exam have very little time left for their preparation for it.
Coaching for banking exams are now releasing Mains papers from the previous years along with other study materials in order to help candidates prepare well for the next level tougher exam.
Login credentials like registration number and password have also been advised to the candidates to keep handy because in case of forgetting them, they can get recovered by either logging into their account through the confirmation email sent during the time of applying for the exam or by clicking on the link 'Forgot Password/Registration' available on the IBPS portal.
