After meeting China’s Xi Jinping, US President Donald Trump called it “a matter of respect,” while the Chinese president said that both countries should become partners, not rivals.
Bilateral talks are taking place today between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, and both leaders made several remarks during their opening statements.

Donald Trump said, “We have a good relationship, and whenever any difficulty has arisen, we have worked together. I call him, and he calls me. People may not know this, but whenever a problem comes up, we find a solution very quickly.”
He said, “I always say that you are a great leader.”
Donald Trump said, “Today I have come to China, and I have brought some of America’s top business leaders with me. They are here to show their respect to you.”
He said, “It is an honor to be with you, and it is also an honor to be your friend.”
In the end, he said that US-China relations are “going to be better than ever before.”
As Donald Trump said, some of America’s top business leaders are accompanying him on this visit. With 17 US CEOs visiting China, it will be interesting to see what outcomes emerge from this US-China visit.

Xi Jinping said, “We should not work as rivals but as partners. We should support each other’s success and prosperity. In today’s new era, the world’s major countries should find the right path for mutual relations.”
He stated that he is excited to meet and speak with U.S. President Donald Trump and that both sides should work together to steer U.S.-China relations in the right direction. He also added that 2026 could mark the beginning of a new phase in U.S.-China relations.
Xi Jinping said, “The whole world is watching us. The changes taking place in the world today have never been seen before, and the international situation is constantly changing.”
He also congratulated the American people and Donald Trump on the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Xi Jinping said, “The world has reached a new turning point. Because of the current international situation, the question is whether we can face global challenges together and bring greater stability to the world.”
“Can we work together for the people of our countries and for a better future for humanity?”
Xi Jinping said in the end, “All these questions are extremely important for the world, and for the people today, and as leaders of major countries, both you and I will have to provide the answers.”
