When the sound of gunfire began, everyone immediately took cover. Donald Trump was escorted out of the program hall, and after that he stayed in a secure location for some time before heading back toward the White House.
The Secret Service escorted U.S. First Lady Melania Trump off the stage and moved her to a secure location.
After that, armed agents from the Secret Service entered the stage area and took full control of the hall. They then began moving several guests to their rooms, while some guests remained at their tables.

After the attack, Donald Trump said that the attacker had been arrested.
Donald Trump wrote, X: “The Secret Service and law enforcement agencies did a great job. They acted quickly and with bravery.”
He said that after the attacker was arrested, the program was allowed to continue.
He said that the day (Saturday) would not proceed as planned.
PM Narendra Modi wrote on X:
“Relieved to learn that President Trump, the First Lady and Vice President are safe and unharmed following the recent security incident at a Washington DC hotel. I extend my best wishes for their continued safety and well-being. Violence has no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned.”
