uring the swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari as chief minister at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, a moment occurred that caught everyone’s attention, and people began talking about it.
Narendra Modi first hugged Makhanlal Sarkar and then touched his feet. He is considered one of the oldest workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He worked with Syama Prasad Mukherjee during his 1952 Kashmir visit and has been part of the nationalist movement for a long time, even spending time in jail during the struggle.
When the Bharatiya Janata Party was founded in 1980, Makhanlal Sarkar played an important role in expanding the party’s organization.
Makhanlal Sarkar worked extensively for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Siliguri and served as the founding president of the district unit.
While working in Siliguri, Makhanlal Sarkar helped connect more than 10,000 people to the Bharatiya Janata Party across the districts of West Dinajpur, Darjeeling, and Jalpaiguri.
Makhanlal Sarkar had been working in West Bengal since a time when neither the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh nor the Bharatiya Janata Party had a significant presence there. During that period, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Left forces dominated politics across the entire state.
Now he is 98 years old. When Samik Bhattacharya became the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal, he visited the home of Makhanlal Sarkar and honored him for his contributions.
After the victory in West Bengal, his name is being widely discussed because even at the age of 98, Makhanlal Sarkar is still actively working for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
According to several reports, Makhanlal Sarkar had taken steps to stop cow slaughter in Siliguri.
The Bharatiya Janata Party in Siliguri has reached its current position largely because of the significant role played by Makhanlal Sarkar.
