n this election, the BJP has set a new record by winning 207 seats in West Bengal. And on Friday, BJP leader and Home Minister Amit Shah announced in Kolkata that Suvendu Adhikari would be the new Chief Minister of West Bengal.
The Home Minister said, “I announce the selection of Suvendu Adhikari as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party in West Bengal.”
In this election, the BJP has reportedly broken the “invincible fortress” of the TMC and formed the government in West Bengal. In this victory, most of the credit is said to go to Suvendu Adhikari. Since he joined the BJP, he has been actively working on the ground and reaching out to people, which is believed to be one of the reasons behind this result. Today, he has emerged as one of the most prominent leaders of the West Bengal BJP.
Until 2020, when Mamata Banerjee was the chief minister, Suvendu Adhikari was considered the second power center in the TMC. However, as Abhishek Banerjee’s influence grew within the party, Suvendu Adhikari was gradually sidelined. After this, he left the TMC and joined the BJP.
After he joined the BJP, within a few months the West Bengal Assembly elections were held. In those elections, the BJP won 77 seats, which was a very good result for the party, as in the previous Assembly elections the BJP had managed to win only 2 seats.
After five years, the BJP achieved a strong performance in West Bengal, and for the first time, it was expected that the party would come to power in the state.

Winning West Bengal was not easy for the BJP. The party had been trying to establish itself in West Bengal for more than 20 years. However, after Suvendu Adhikari joined the BJP, the party’s presence and organizational strength in the state started to become more prepared and stronger.
Suvendu Adhikari has been working at the grassroots level for more than the past five years. In the 2021 elections, the BJP made him the leader of the opposition. After that, he remained highly active for five years and, through various movements against the TMC, continuously strengthened the BJP’s base in the state.
In 2021, Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee from the Nandigram seat, and in 2026 as well, Mamata Banerjee faced defeat.
Home Minister Amit Shah announced Suvendu Adhikari’s name and said…
The meeting of the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly was held here. In that meeting, the national president of the BJP had sent me and Mohan Charan Majhi as observers from the central leadership.
The election process was completed some time ago. About eight proposals and supports were received, and all of them were for the same name. Time was also given for another name, but no other name was proposed.
As the central observer, I declare Suvendu Adhikari elected as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party in the West Bengal Assembly.
