West Bengal to Witness Cabinet Expansion; 35 Leaders to Take Oath as Ministers.

T he West Bengal government has not been in office for long, and this will be the first cabinet expansion since its formation. The information was given by the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

This cabinet expansion will begin on June 1 at 11 a.m.

According to reports, around 35 leaders may take oath as ministers in this cabinet expansion. This information has been shared by the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

The cabinet expansion ceremony will be held at Nabanna, the state secretariat.

West Bengal Governor R. N. Ravi will administer the oath of office to all the new ministers.

Suvendu Adhikari took oath as Chief Minister on May 9, along with five others who also took oath as ministers, and this will be the first cabinet expansion after that.
After the swearing-in of 35 new ministers tomorrow, the total number of cabinet members will rise to 41.

The West Bengal government is expected to maintain balance in this cabinet expansion. According to reports, SC, ST, and women MLAs may be included as ministers. It is also being suggested that at least two female faces could be inducted in this reshuffle.

Under Article 164(1A) of the Indian Constitution, in a 294-member Legislative Assembly like West Bengal, the total number of ministers, including the Chief Minister, can go up to 44 (15% of the total strength). However, even after this cabinet expansion, the total number of ministers will be 41, which is within the constitutional limit.

One notable aspect of this government is that most of the MLAs have been elected for the first time. It is expected that senior leaders in the party may be given ministerial positions in this cabinet expansion.

The BJP government has added two new institutional bodies to its governance structure: the Institutional Anti-Corruption Commission and the Commission for the Prevention of Atrocities Against Women.

The first name being mentioned in this cabinet expansion is Swapan Dasgupta, who is a senior BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha member.

The next name being mentioned is Tapas Roy, who is known as an experienced BJP leader. He is also likely to be given a ministerial post tomorrow.

Another name appearing in reports is Shankar Ghosh, who is an MLA and a senior BJP leader.

Arjun Singh, who is the former Member of Parliament from Barrackpore, is also among the names being mentioned, and he may be inducted as a minister tomorrow.

Ritesh Tiwari, a senior BJP leader, is also being mentioned among the names who could be made a minister in the West Bengal BJP government.

Rudranil Ghosh, who is an actor and has been associated with the BJP for a long time, is also expected to be considered for a ministerial position.

In this cabinet expansion, women may also be included. One of the names being discussed is Chandana Bauri, the MLA from Saltora, who won the election by a margin of 32,135 votes. Her name is being mentioned in several reports as a potential ministerial candidate.

Another woman’s name being discussed is Roopa Ganguly, a former Rajya Sabha MP and actress, who may also be considered for a ministerial position.

The government has decided to add two new commissions, which will start functioning from June 1.

Institutional Anti-Corruption Commission: The head of this commission will be retired Calcutta High Court judge Justice Biswajit Basu.

Commission for Prevention of Atrocities Against Women: It will be chaired by retired Justice Samapti Chatterjee.
