ver since Mamata Didi and the TMC were defeated in the West Bengal elections, things have not been going well for her, and she has been facing one problem after another.
The biggest challenge facing Mamata Didi is the possibility of an internal split in the party. Several leaders have already turned rebellious, and many have been expelled from the TMC.
Among them, a rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, who was expelled from the TMC, has reportedly established control over the party’s legislative wing in the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly, Rathendra Bose, has officially recognized expelled TMC leader Ritabrata Banerjee as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly. This is being seen as a major setback for Mamata Didi.
In the West Bengal elections, TMC had won a total of 80 MLAs; however, the party currently has written support from only 58 legislators, while the status of the remaining MLAs is unclear.
Meanwhile, Ritabrata Banerjee said at a press conference that two more MLAs are likely to join their group, bringing their strength to 60.
The same political model seen in Maharashtra is now being repeated in West Bengal.
Since the TMC lost power, the party has not been in a good position. After ruling the state for 15 years, Mamata Didi’s party managed to win only 80 seats in this election, and Mamata Banerjee herself lost from the Bhabanipur constituency.
After the election, Mamata Didi held several meetings, but only about one-fourth of the MLAs (around 20) attended. As a result, the meeting had to be cancelled. This is not a good sign for Mamata or the TMC.
Mamata Didi has said that the police are playing a major role in this and that TMC MLAs are being intimidated over the phone and pressured to leave the party. She also claimed that after this, they were contacted by the BJP offices.
Mamata Didi has said that the BJP is trying to break the TMC.
Recent news reports have suggested that senior TMC leaders, including Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor and Mamata Banerjee’s close aide Firhad Hakim, have resigned from the party.

In the coming days, Abhishek Banerjee’s problems may increase further.
Mamata Didi appears to be seeing her political ground slipping away, and in response, she has adopted an aggressive stance by launching a street-level political struggle.

Mamata Didi is sitting on an indefinite sit-in protest at Kolkata’s Rani Rashmoni Avenue against ED raids on her party leaders and associates.
At the protest, Mamata Didi made it clear that the situation has become “do or die,” and she said she will fight till her last breath.
She also said that she has a pen drive, which she will make public, exposing the alleged secrets of opposition leaders.
In this situation, Mamata Didi is likely facing a problem, as only a very small number of MLAs and MPs attended the protest, indicating a visible lack of morale within the party.
According to reports, an INDIA bloc meeting is scheduled to be held in Delhi on 8 June 2026, and Mamata Banerjee’s participation is being reported as confirmed.
It will be seen what the next step of the INDIA block will be after this meeting.
